ALIM: Arabic Language In Muscat

Intensive Arabic Study

Recognized as the premier program in the region, CIL offers more full-time native Omani instructors (8), more classes (7 proficiency levels), and more contact hours per week (30) than any other. Operating since 2008, our Muscat-based study abroad programs are the only ones approved by the Omani government for visiting foreign university students. CIL provides not only intensive Arabic study but also lectures on interesting topics, weekend excursions to the interior, and cultural events such as camel racing.

Levels:

Seven proficiency levels, from Beginner to Advanced

Instruction:

MSA skills (reading, writing, listening), media literacy, conversation, and grammar; Peer Facilitators (Omani language partners)

Textbooks:

Al Kitaab fii Taalum Al-Arabiyya, other international textbooks, authentic media material, and CIL-developed materials

Schedule:

30 hours per week of classes and conversation

Assessment:

Written and oral assignments and language assessments

Class Size:

Typically 6 to 9 students

Program dates

• Session One: May 25 - June 19, 2014 (four weeks -- students can add Session Two)
• Session Two: June 22 - August 7, 2014 (six weeks**)
• Session Three: August 10 - 28, 2014 (three weeks)

Fully-furnished shared flats in Muscat’s bustling Al Khoud Souk

Transportation:

Weekday round-trip private bus transportation

Cultural activities:

Lectures, visits to Muscat sites, events with Omani students

Excursions:

Weekend excursions to Omani villages, Bedouin desert camping, turtle reserve

Cost:

• Session One (4 weeks): $4,850 ($3,350 with partial scholarship)
• Session Two (6 weeks**): $6,370 ($4,870 with partial scholarship)
• Session Three (3 weeks): $2,730 (partial scholarship not available)
• Sessions One and Two (10 weeks): $8,710 ($7,210 with partial scholarship)

NOTES: **Session Two is a 6 week program spread out over 7 weeks due to the Eid Al Fitr holiday. Not included: Airfare, meals, books, visa, insurance.
