K-18 Census Solicitation - Released by The Language Flagship

The Institute of International Education (IIE) is pleased to provide you with application materials for the development of a comprehensive survey of foreign language offerings and foreign language enrollments in the United States.

Through this solicitation, The Language Flagship is seeking proposals to develop and conduct a comprehensive survey of U.S. foreign language enrollments for both K-12 and higher education institutions. This data is needed for the expansion of program recruitment and practices in The Language Flagship and for the expansion and dissemination of Flagship K-12 language initiatives. It is also needed to support planning and recruitment for National Security Education Program (NSEP) pipeline programs such as ROTC Project Global Officers (Project GO) and other initiatives.

The Language Flagship is a major initiative of the National Security Education Program, which was created by Congress in 1991 to address the need to increase the ability of Americans to communicate and compete globally by knowing languages and cultures of other countries. NSEP embodies a recognition that the scope of national security has expanded to include not only the traditional concerns of protecting and promoting American well-being, but also the new challenges of a global society.

The Language Flagship seeks to change the way Americans learn languages through a groundbreaking approach to language education for undergraduate students. The Language Flagship graduates students who will take their place among the next generation of global professionals, commanding a superior level of proficiency in one of many languages critical to U.S. competitiveness and security. IIE serves as the administrative agent for The Language Flagship and considers it a distinct pleasure to take part in this important effort.

Attached please find a copy of the project and application guidelines for this solicitation (also available online here). We ask that you share this information with colleagues and any other individuals or entities that may be interested in this opportunity.
